Speaking at the European Union (EU) Arctic Forum 2025!

The EU Arctic Forum 2025,
the European Union’s flagship event on Arctic affairs, was held for the first
time within the Arctic region itself—Levi, Kittilä, Finland. While the main
forum took place on 26–27 June, side events were organized on 25 June,
featuring a series of panel discussions showcasing both recent and ongoing key
research and development projects focused on the Arctic.
Co-hosted by the European
Commission and Finnish authorities, the forum welcomed over 300 participants,
including EU officials, Arctic ambassadors, Indigenous leaders, youth
representatives, researchers, and stakeholders from civil society and industry.
This year’s forum centered on implementing the EU’s Arctic Strategy,
highlighting themes such as climate resilience, sustainable development,
Indigenous rights, youth leadership, research and innovation, mobility, and
international collaboration. The program offered a vibrant mix of high-level
panel discussions, youth-led pitches, and Indigenous-led dialogues.
I had the pleasure of
attending the event and delivering a presentation during one of the side
events. In my talk, I shared key findings from the HuSArctic project, which I
led. Officially titled Human Security as a Promotional Tool for Societal
Security in the Arctic, this four-year project (2015–2018) produced
important research and policy recommendations aimed at enhancing human and
community development across the Arctic region.
