Professor Kamrul Hossain speaks at the webinar on “Indigenous rights: Issues and challenges”!
The Department of Anthropology of the Mrinalini Datta Mahavidyapith, Birati, Kolkata, India along with collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell of this Institute, organized a one-day international webinar on “Indigenous rights: Issues and challenges”. The webinar was held on the 14th of January, 2021. The webinar, among others, included two invited key speakers to share their views on indigenous peoples’ rights and challenges. The first Lecture was given by Professor Kamrul Hossain from the University of Lapland, Finland. He highlighted the perspectives of indigenous peoples’ movement to gain a right to self-determination as it is understood in the present-day context. While he presented a global perspective, he also brought reference to the Arctic indigenous peoples. The second Lecture was deliberated by Professor Nestor Castro, University of Philippines, Diliman, the Philippines who explained human rights issues and challenges among the various indigenous group of southeast Asian countries.
